Film Crew

Two of our dancers, Malece Miller and Diego Ballesteros, have been selected to participate in a documentary film on dance. Occasionally, there may be a camera crew on location at the Studios recording their classes and rehearsal sessions. When this is the case, we ask dancers, as always, to be on your best behavior, work hard in class, and be respectful.

*Please be aware that the master class with Tadd may be filmed. If you do not want your dancer to be recorded, please notify a teacher or the office staff.

Utah Dance Fest Reminders

The routine fee amount for Utah Dance Fest was inadvertently listed incorrectly on the competition schedule and I apologize for this oversight. Team cost per routine is $16 for small, medium & large teams (10+ dancers) and $18 for x-small teams (less than 10 dancers). Be sure you have April 13 & 14th on your calendar. Fees are due 2/21 and we appreciate those who have made payment already.

Solo forms are available in both offices. This competition fills up VERY quickly with solos so please get your paperwork in early! Due to overwhelming demand, they are not usually able to accommodate late entries. Cost is $65 for solos and $50 each for duo/trios. Forms and additional information are also available on-line at http://www.utahdancefest.com. Be sure to select Stage Competition.

We will be reserving a block of hotel rooms at the Best Western for anyone interested in staying overnight in Logan the weekend of Utah Dance Fest. Please let Angie P. know by 2/29 if you would like a room.

Important Competition Info.
There have been problems previously at the Browning Center with the audience and dancers being very messy and disrespectful to the property at Weber State.

This is a fine arts facility and a very nice venue with strict guidelines. Entry is allowed in between routines only.

PLEASE talk to your dancer about how to conduct themselves. We need everyone to do their part in keeping the auditorium and the dressing rooms clean. Also, do not allow your dancers to run the halls unsupervised. We are asking that students remain in the dressing areas around performance times and sit respectfully and watch the dances during the rest of the event.

BE SURE TO COME with your make-up and hair already done. There won’t be mirrors in the classrooms and we don’t want any make-up in the carpets. We also had a huge problem last year with garbage. Please ask the students to throw away all wrappers and cans or bottles. There will be NO food or drinks allowed in the auditorium.

ADMISSION DISCOUNT - Remember to bring a can of food and get in for $4.00 instead of $7.00.

Friday for solos the doors will not be open until 3:30 and the parking will not be available without a fee until 4:00. There is a pay lot you can park in if you need to arrrive before 4:00.

Info. for Saturday
On Saturday parking will be free. Doors to get in and pay will not be open until 8:00 a.m. and you will not be let in to be seated until 8:30. Dancers can go to their dressing rooms at 8:00 but they will be required to get their hands stamped at the desk for free so they can get into the auditorium throughout the day.

Please let your dancers know that Eldon Johnson will be teaching a master class Saturday while tabulations are being done. The cost will be $10 and ALL proceeds will go to Dancers for Cancer.

If you are interested in staying in Logan for Utah Dance Fest on April 13 & 14, we are checking on a discount rate for a block of rooms. The Best Western gave us a great deal last year and it was a very nice hotel. If you want to book a room, Angie is making a list and will make the reservation. Please let her know by Feb. 27 since the hotels in Logan fill up fast for this event.

Competition Hair & Make Up Info.

Competition HAIRSTYLE for all teams is a STRAIGHT middle pony with hair slicked and parted on the left. The only hair accessory is the rhinestone pony holder (no rhinestone bobby pins this year). Please slick hair in front and pin with regular bobby pins to match your hair color. Use gel or product as needed so there are NO flyaways. If your hair is not long enough to put in a pony, slick and part on the left and pin back on the sides so all bangs and hair in front is secured off of the face.

Remember, PERFORMANCE MAKE UP includes foundation, brown tones of eye shadow, black eyeliner, false eyelashes, blush, and bright red lipstick with shiny gloss or liplock.

REMOVE ALL NAIL POLISH on finger and toenails

Directions to Dance for Life

Dance for Life is at the Val Browning Fine Arts Center at Weber State University. The general address is: 3848 Harrison Blvd
Take the 31st Street exit (341) off of I-15 and turn east. Continue east and turn right on Wall Avenue for .7 of a mile. Turn left onto 36th Street and continue east until Harrison Blvd. Turn right on Harrison and immediately move to the left-hand lane. Turn left (east) onto University Circle (3850 E) at the stoplight and stay to the right in the roundabout. Stay right again onto Nixon Drive and turn at the first left by the duck pond. Continue down the hill and there are several lots for parking. The Browning Center is set back toward the mountains to the east.

Syracuse Dance Line Showcase 6:30 p.m. on Wed., Feb. 15:

Please arrive ready to go at 6:05 p.m. All participants will need to enter the school from the North. Enter through the glass doors on the North West end of the school, by the Seminary building. The event was very crowded last year. I suggest arriving early. Dancers meet in the small gym at 6:05.

General admission: $3. Children under 3 are free. Concessions will be available. There is a small section in the center reserved for Dance Line parents, who are assisting with the show. Please be cooperative in keeping those seats reserved. Spectators must wait between numbers to be seated and patrons will not be allowed to walk in front of the bleachers during a performance.

Dance for Life Competition fees are DUE on Tuesday, Jan. 3, when classes resume. Fee is $11 per routine times the number of dances per student. Most companies are competing 3 routines ($33) so please check your balance in the Office. Solos are $70, Duet/Trio $90, and additional solo entries are $55.

Our first competition is only 12 weeks away and will be here before you know it. We are ordering most items next week and your dancer's costumes and accessories orders will not be placed unless balances are paid in full. Movie in Vegas!!

A group is going to see Breaking Dawn on Friday night at the Rave Cinema (6587 Las Vegas Blvd) at 8:30 p.m. This is a really nice theater near the Town Square outlet mall. Everyone is invited to come! Angie will be reserving a block of seats for us. If you want to go, make sure you let Angie know and get your money to her by Monday. Cost is $8 for children and $12 for adults. Money must be received by Monday in order to reserve your seat.

We are very excited to have so many soloists this season! Please be mindful of the following:

Studio rental fee is $50 for all soloists (payable to Infinity Dance)

Plan ahead and review competition schedules-solo costs and opportunities will be posted soon. It is your responsibility to complete all required paperwork and notify the office of which competitions you are planning to compete. Solo forms and fees must be received prior to the posted deadline or you will not be registered.

There are some great used costumes at the Brigham Studio and/or for sale from other soloists from previous years. Check with your choreographer to make arrangements for design and purchase.

In order to maximize your dancer's individual time with their instructor, please adhere to the Studio policy of no parent observation during class, which also applies to solos. This will help our busy teachers stay on track and give their undivided attention to your dancer. Students progress much more quickly without additional distractions, and, as always, you are welcome to observe the last few minutes of class or by teacher invitation.

Our first competition is scheduled for mid-February and will be here before you know it! We can't wait to see everyone perform. We know you will shine!!

Upcoming Payment Reminders

WARM UPS - If you are new on a company this year or need warm ups, payment is due Sep. 15. Cost is approximately $110 for jacket and pants, which includes name embroidered on the jacket and rhinestones. You can also have a name embroidered on the pants for an extra $10.

COSTUMES - Company dancers should have made two costume payments, so far. Third costume payment is due Sep. 22 and the final balance due on costumes is Oct. 20.

THE PULSE - Those attending the Pulse in Las Vegas, remember convention fee $210 and $25 competition fee will be due Oct. 3

We are #32. Meet at Napa Auto Parts (500 S Main). Parade marchers be there at 9:00 a.m. sharp. If you are riding on the truck only, meet at 9:30. Wear your costume, black racer-back sports bra, black high-top converse, no-show socks, belt, sword, and bandana. Hair will be in a right, low curled pony tail with a part on the left. Remember, no earrings or fingernail polish. Riders may wear any combination of red, white, and black.

The parade route ends at 600 North. All dancers must be picked up by a parent immediately following the parade. If you have permission to leave without a parent, you must bring a signed note or have your parent sign the list when they drop you off. We want all dancers accounted for! See you Saturday and most important, bring your smiles! Thanks for all your hard work!
