More Utah Dance Festival Information

Dear UDF Participants,

We are excited to see you on May 10, 2014 for the Fifth Annual Utah Dance Festival!  We look forward to a great day of learning and building connections within the Utah dance community!

Group Designations
We have divided the dance schools attending into two groups for classes and adjudication.  The groups are divided as follows:

Group A
Just Dance
South Valley Creative
Falling Star
Artistic (non-performers)
Creative Arts Academy (non-performers)
Dance Conservatory
Provo Civic Ballet (non-performers)

Group B
Infinity Dance Studio
Provo Civic Ballet (performers)
Artistic Dance (performers)
Wasatch Arts Center
Creative Arts Academy (performers)

Each dancer has been assigned a group for classes.  The groups are assigned a color for the three hours of classes and each color is assigned a room.  Classes will be held in ten rooms.  Students will stay in the same room for the duration of the three hours of classes.  Students will be taking ballet, contemporary and either jazz/hip hop fusion, improvisation or African dance.  We will receive a packet at registration with the group assignments.

Schedule
Group B will check in at Viewmont High School.  Each studio will have 15 minutes to familiarize itself with the stage prior to adjudication according to the following schedule:

8:00 -- Registration
8:30 – Provo Civic Ballet
8:45 – Artistic Dance
9:00 – Wasatch Arts Center
9:15 – Creative Arts Academy
9:30 – Infinity Dance Studio
9:45 – Adjudication Begins

12:00 – Lunch

Classes for Group B begin at Creative
Arts Academy at 1:30 p.m. and end at 4:30 p.m.

Adjudication Reminders

No spectators are permitted at the adjudication.  Only the dancers, studio owner and teacher are permitted.   The judges will select four dances from the field of adjudicated dances for the “Judges Choice Award.”  Regardless of scoring, no studio will receive more than one “Judges Choice Award.” One of the judges awards will be reserved for a younger group. The recipients of the Judges Choice Awards will be announced at the end of the Gala Concert. This year the pieces selected as the “Judges Choice” will be performing at the Utah Arts Festival, Saturday June 28th.

Dancers should be backstage 10 minutes prior to their adjudication time.

Gala Concert

Participants for the Gala Concert will be announced/posted at 4:15 p.m. in the lobby of Viewmont High School.  Each studio will have at least one dance selected.  Approximately 20-25 dances will be selected for the Gala Concert.

The Gala Concert will begin at 6:00 p.m.

One of the core missions of UDF is to provide a venue for dancers and teachers to share their work with others in the Utah dance community in a non-competitive environment. For that reason, we would like the students to see as many dances from the other studios as possible.  We will announce when a dance is “on deck” and when that announcement is made, the dancers in that dance should line up backstage.  Before that announcement is made, please have your dancers remain in the auditorium.  Also, please have your dancers return to the auditorium after their dance is completed.

Facility Locations
All master classes will take place at Creative Arts Academy.  The address is 165 South Main Street in Bountiful.  Please park in back and enter through the back entrance.  There will be no food or drink allowed in the dance studios.  Also, only ballet slippers, foot-undies, or bare feet will be allowed.  NO street shoes should be worn in the dance studios.

The adjudication and gala will be held at Viewmont High School.  The address is 120 West 1000 North in Bountiful.  Because of our tight schedule, dances that are late will not be adjudicated.  Also, please make sure that dancers pick up after themselves in the high school common areas.
